Prince William is definitely in one of our top two favourite royals (Prince Harry’s in there too, we just can’t decide which of the brothers we prefer, they’re both great). Wills does a ton of great charity work but The Royal Marsden has a special place in the Duke of Cambridge’s heart. The Royal Marsden is the the largest cancer research centre in Europe and was a favourite hospital of William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
Prince William hosted the star-studded gala at Windsor Castle
Following in her footsteps, the prince became president of the Royal Marsden back in 2007 and has since become deeply involved with their work. Just a few months ago, in November, William watched live surgery in the operating theatres in the surgery and he is also a supported of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
So, last week Wills hosted The Royal Marsden Gala Dinner, which was held at Windsor Castle (courtesy of his granny, the Queen) and rammed with celebrities. The glamorous dinner party was attended by stars including Kate Moss, Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett, Cara Delevingne, Helena Bonham Carter and Benedict Cumberbatch. William’s wife, Catherine, didn’t attend the gala, instead opting to stay home and look after their baby son, Prince George.

However, the most honoured guest of the evening was fashion designer Ralph Lauren, who made the announcement that he plans to fund a whole new breast cancer department at the hospital. The decision was likely spurred on by his own personal experience, having lost a close friend to breast cancer in 1990.
As a recognition of his generous donation and contribution, all attendees at the Gala wore his designs. Emma Watson stole the show (as per usual) wearing a Ralph Lauren Collection silk evening skirt teamed with a white shirt. Even Helena Bonham Carter scrubbed up and wore something fairly normal for once (although we must admit that we quite enjoy her mad outfits), looking every inch the film star in a navy silk taffeta evening dress. Benedict Cumberbatch, who may be the sharpest dressed male celeb ever, wore a Ralph Lauren tux.

The guests chowed down on smoked salmon, fillets of beef and a chocolate and salted caramel tart, before William thanked them for attending. The Duke of Cambridge thanked Ralph Lauren for his funding, as well as all of the others who donate to the hospital, “I am enormously grateful to Ralph Lauren for his generosity, and to all of you who so kindly support the hospital. You should know that what you do saves lives and gives home to thousands of people.”
