Naturally, the big guns are being pulled out for the 25th anniversary of Paul Simon’s iconic Graceland. As part of a year-long celebration, Under African Skies, a new documentary about the album, will premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The Joe Berlinger-directed film follows Simon as he returns to South Africa to reflect on the making of the politically-charged album, “surveying from the vantage of history the turbulence and controversy surrounding the album’s genesis.” After its Sundance premiere and screening at various film festivals, it’ll be in theaters on a limited basis and will air on A&E.
There’s also a special anniversary box set and a two-disc reissue coming in spring of this year, which includes the original album, bonus tracks, and the director’s cut of the new documentary. Below, watch the video for the classic Graceland cut “You Can Call Me Al”, featuring Chevy Chase.
