Patrick joined the romantic comedy franchise as a love interest for Bridget in the new installment, the third to feature Renee Zellweger as the British literary character.
And the star says he’s game for many more outings as Jack Qwant, a handsome billionaire who competes for Bridget’s love with long-term lover Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth.
“People are growing up with Bridget and growing older with Bridget…there’s a potential of taking her all through her life and that would be fun to be a part of that journey sure.”
Co-star Colin is also open to continuing in the role of Mark, saying,”I’ve never made any declarations about what I would or wouldn’t do ever, I never said I wouldn’t come back for a third one (film). I imagined I wouldn’t, a number of years ago I didn’t feel there was a third one to be made.
“It’s like anything, you show me a decent script and if everyone’s enthusiastic about it and back to do it again then it’s possible.”
A major factor in Patrick agreeing to return would also be a strong script as he feels the new film has benefited from it being 12 years since Bridget’s last big screen outing.
“I think it would depend on the script and what the story is,” he says of a possible return. “It is good that there’s (been) a little time off.”
Renee, who recently returned to acting after a six year hiatus, also wants to make more Bridget Jones films in order to see how her character copes with motherhood after falling pregnant in the latest movie.
“From a selfish perspective it could be a lot of fun to see her improvise her way through motherhood and whatever else might follow,” she tells the AFP news agency.
Bridget Jones’s Baby, which is directed by Sharon Maguire, is released on Friday (16Sep16).
