The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is out with its shortlist of 10 films that will vie for Visual Effects nominations at the 89th Oscars. The list features only two comic book movies and one animated pic is Kubo and the Two Strings. Also aboard are such global hits as The Jungle Book, Captain America: Civil War and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, along with box office middlers The BFG and Deepwater Horizon. Also shortlisted: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which launched today, and Passengers, which opens Wednesday.

The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the shortlist, and all members of the Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the shortlisted films on January 7.
Nominations for the 89th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, and the trophy ceremony is set for for February 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
