Emma Watson, Orlando Bloom, Daniel Craig and One Direction were among the stars doing something funny for money last night, as ‘Red Nose Day’ took over the BBC to raise money for Comic Relief. The charity, which is now in its 30th year reached its goal of taking its overall total over the billion pound mark on Friday, after raising £78m by the end of the live broadcast.

Kicking off the proceedings, Rowan Atkinson returned as Mr Bean in his first full new sketch in eight years as the character attended a funeral in a small village church. Of course things never go smoothly for the tweed wearing silent star and by the time he already disrupted the service (to the point of knocking over the coffin) Bean realised he was in fact at the wrong funeral.
Daniel Craig also made an appearance as 007, in a James Bond mockumentary where the actor’s ‘real voice’ was finally revealed. In the sketch, Craig’s cast members as well as director Sam Mendes and producer Michael G Wilson exposed the Bond star as having a much higher pitched voice then we’d been led to believe, one which comedian Alan Carr had to dub over for the spy films.

One Direction faced some serious rivals for their pop crown on the night, as comedians Jack Dee, Nick Helm, Patrick Kielty, Vic Reeves and Johnny Vegas performed a special rendition of ‘Best Song Ever’ at the London Palladium event, as tribute band No Direction.
Funnywoman Dawn French was as ever on hand as her ‘Vicar of Dibley’ character Geraldine Granger who this time found out she is now eligible to become an archbishop. But Geraldine had some stiff competition for the role, as Ruth Jones, Maureen Lipman and Emma Watson all threw in their names as contenders.
Watson made an surprise appearance in the sketch where the Harry Potter star told her fellow contenders she’d love a, “feisty bishop; going on ‘Question Time,’ protesting on the streets. A bishop that’s funny, not just funny looking. A bishop that can make us laugh as well as think.”

But Emma wasn’t the only Hollywood star to make a surprise appearance on the night. Orlando Bloom also appeared to plant a kiss on host David Walliams, to prepare the comedian for later trying to set a Guinness World Record.
After locking lips with Walliams, the comedian described the Pirates of Caribbean star’s kissing technique as “alright”. Adding, “there was quite a strong taste of kebab that was a bit off putting.” Later in the night Walliams set a new world record for most number of kisses in 30 seconds, after being kissed 55 times.
