It’s not goodbye to the United States. Instead, it’s a reassuring see you later.
This past weekend, One Direction performed their final show in the country before their extended hiatus begins in March.
But before singing their biggest hits including songs from their latest album, the boys explained how they were really feeling as they begin an exciting new chapter.
“I think the point of making the record to go on the break was to kind of give fans a thank you for this year, to wrap up what we’ve been doing for the last five years,” Liam Payne told E! News’ Will Marfuggi. “It’s been great for us.”
He added, “There’s more to come. We obviously want to tour all these songs. We love them so.”

During Friday night’s show as part of iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball tour, the band got the sold-out crowd on their feet during their 30-minute set. In between performing “Perfect,” “Drag Me Down” and other No. 1 hits, the band was also able to reflect on their journey.
“To be honest with you, this show is kind of an important one for us,” Liam explained to the crowd. “This is going to be the last time for a little while. I feel myself getting a little emotional.”
Luckily, the guys have much to look forward to once they finally have time to go home for the holidays.

“We’re just looking forward to heading home,” Niall Horan confessed to E! News backstage. “I personally haven’t been home in awhile and that’s going to be good to see the family and eat like crazy.”
He continued, “At home, we do this thing called 12 pubs of Christmas. You’ve got five minutes to finish a pint and you’re done.”
So, are his mates down for the challenge?
“What a great game,” Liam joked. “I love those kind of games.”
