Black Mirror, which first aired on Channel 4, is hugely popular in the U.K. and has become popular in the U.S. since it was shown on Netflix in December 2014. According to reports in the Radio Times, this is one of the reasons why Netflix is keen to produce a new series.
Channel 4 are likely to still be involved and they are rumoured to be in negotiations with Netflix to acquire the broadcasting rights for the new series. Similarly to the BBC and Amazon’s deal with Ripper Street, the show is likely to be released on Netflix before being aired on Channel 4 at a later date.
Black Mirror satires modern society particularly our dependence on technology. Channel 4 have previously shown two seasons of the series, each consisting of three stand-alone episodes, and a Christmas special in 2014. Previous episodes have starred such actors as Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) and Rupert Everett (A Royal Night Out). Jon Hamm, the actor best known as Don Draper in Mad Men, starred in the Christmas special White Christmas.
