Neil Peart has died.
The Rush drummer handed away on the age of 67 on January 7 in Santa Monica, California, after a secret three-year battle with a mind tumour, in response to his household’s spokesperson Elliott Mintz.
His band shared a gushing assertion about him shortly after the information broke, which mentioned: ”It is with damaged hearts and the deepest unhappiness that we should share the horrible information that on Tuesday our good friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has misplaced his extremely courageous three and a half 12 months battle with mind most cancers (Glioblastoma). We ask that pals, followers, and media alike understandably respect the household’s want for privateness and peace at this extraordinarily painful and tough time.

Neil is survived by his spouse Carrie and daughter Olivia.
Neil joined Rush in 1974 and over time obtained quite a few awards for his performances – together with being inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983, making him the youngest ever to be honoured.
He introduced he was retiring from the band in 2015 as a way to spend extra time along with his household and, later that 12 months, he performed the drums for the group’s remaining present on the Forum in Los Angeles.
However, his bandmate Geddy Lee insisted shortly afterwards that Neil was ”merely taking a break” and hadn’t stop the band for good.
But in January 2018, bandmate Alex Lifeson confirmed that Rush was retiring on account of Neil’s well being points, which weren’t disclosed on the time.
