Congratulations to Miss P, the gorgeous beagle who won Best in Show Tuesday at the Westminster Kennel Club 139th Annual Dog Show!

The next morning, 4-year-old Miss P, her handler William Alexander and Westminster co-host David Frei dropped by NBC’s Today, where this “elegant, beautiful dog” was fêted as part of her post-victory plan!

“She’s off to Sardi’s, where she gets to have sliced steak on a silver platter served by the owner,” said Frei. Miss P then has a number of public appearances around town, too, he noted—including a visit to the top of the Empire State building!

And after that? “She’s going to go and be a mother soon,” said Miss P’s handler. “That’ll be a great thing for her…and I will just sit and revel in our victory!”

Miss P and her posse certainly should be proud of their win! Although Westminster’s co-host told the New York Times her win was “not an upset,” the clear crowd favorite was Swagger, an Old English sheepdog. Matisse, a Portuguese water dog and cousin of Sunny Obama, seemed to be a front-runner as well, making Miss P a bit of an underdog in the competition. As Frei noted, however, “It was a great lineup. There were 500 best in shows out there, and she had 19 of them.”

Miss P (whose official champion’s name is “Tashtins Lookin for Trouble”) is only the second beagle to win Best in Show. It was actually her grand-uncle Uno, who took home the title in 2008. Owner Caroline Dowell said Uno was not watching the dog show to see Miss P’s win, but they were both happy for her.

Stars who adopted pets!

“She’s a really nice dog,” said Dowell, noting that 10-year-old Uno is still in such good shape that “you can put him in the ring and he’d win tonight.”

It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there!

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)

Celebrity puppy love!
