Both Kathy Griffin and Melissa Rivers have now spoken out about Joan Rivers‘ apparent Oscars snub during the In Memoriam segment Sunday night.
The late comic legend’s daughter posted the following message on Facebook, after viewers noticed that Joan was conspicuously missing from the Academy’s on-air tribute.
“It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom’s passing and we choose to focus on that,” Melissa shared.
Then, on last night’s episode of Fashion Police, Kathy broke her silence on the matter and admitted that she had a hard time understanding why the Academy left her out.
Stars we’ve lost this year
“Can we kind of take a moment with that because when I was watching that I thought, Meryl Streep is out there and she kept saying like, ‘People who push the boundaries and stuff.’ So when they left Joan out of that, I thought it was really a miss.”
She continued, “And she was in feature films and I thought that was an odd miss. But it’s almost like even posthumously, she’s still a rebel.”
Joan wasn’t the only star left out of Sunday night’s In Memoriam clip either.
Many wondered why Elaine Stritch and Harold Ramis were both not mentioned, even though the Ghostbusters was noted in last year’s awards show.
