Mariah Carey has cancelled her upcoming show in Brussels amid security concerns in the wake of this week’s terrorist attacks in the city.
Posting an announcement to her official Twitter account on Friday evening (March 25th), Mariah said that “I am being advised to cancel my show for the safety of my fans, my band, crew and everyone”, and that therefore her engagement on Sunday at the Forest National arena in the city would not be going ahead.

US gossip website TMZ had speculated that the show would be postponed. The site gave a number of reasons why the arena would be targeted – for instance, she’s engaged to multi-billionaire James Packer, and the show is taking place on her 46th birthday.

On Tuesday (March 22nd), two co-ordinated terrorist attacks on the Belgian capital’s international airport and metro system killed at least 34 people and injured hundreds of others.
Since the attacks, police and security forces in Belgium have been working intensively to root out alleged Islamic State cells related to the atrocities, with nine potential suspects arrested at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Mariah has been dazzling her fans in Britain on the latest leg of her Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour – her first gigs in Europe in nearly a decade. Her security detail has been very strict, according to some reports, saying that even VIP guests were being instructed there was to be no physical contact at all during backstage meet-and-greet events.
“There were strict instructions for fans,” a source told The Sun. “No kissing, touching, grabbing or hugging Mariah. She was allowed to touch fans but they were told by bodyguards they weren’t to touch her.”
