The first excerpts for Lil Wayne’s prison memoirs from his time incarcerated in Rikers Island have proved to be illuminating reading, including the revelation that the rapper officiated a same-sex wedding while inside.
According to a report in New York Daily News’ Page Six, the details are from Lil Wayne’s forthcoming book, ‘Gone ‘Til November’, in which he recalls the eight month sentence he served in the New York prison as a result of a conviction on gun charges back in 2010.

The 34 year old rapper, real name Dwayne Carter Jr., describes in the handwritten entries marrying off two male inmates behind bars, a union which was celebrated by festooning one of the halls with toilet tissue and toasted by 13 bottles of Gatorade.
“Gatorade is liquid gold in this b***h,” one of the entries reads. “Imagine seeing grown-ass men in jail hanging tissue for wedding decorations. AND one of them is Lil Wayne. Crazy.”

It was also during his spell behind bars that he discovered that his then-girlfriend had cheated on him with rival rapper Drake – in 2010, just starting his ascent to the top of the hip-hop game.
“Finding out that she f***ed Drake was the absolute worst thing I could have found out. Drizzy came to see me, he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s true’. Damn! This is the type of s*** a man never wants to find out while he is locked up.”
Other entries describe times when he was visited by Kanye West and P Diddy, and the kinds of activities he and the other inmates got up to in order to pass the time, most notably watching ‘American Idol’. He also used the time to write a new album, revealing that his creativity while locked up and materially deprived surprised him.
“I always thought I needed things like being high with my n***as, a Bugatti, a dope-ass crib or some big-booty bitches to be creative. But once it was taken away from me, my creativity was put to the ultimate test.”
Lil Wayne’s book is published on October 11th.
