The actresses will take turns playing the leading female roles, Regina Hubbard Giddens and Birdie Giddens, in the production, which will be based on Lillian Hellman’s drama surrounding an aristocratic Southern family business.
The 2017 revival will be directed by Tony Award-winner Daniel Sullivan and will premiere at the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in March. Sullivan has worked with Laura in stageshows Sight Unseen and Time Stands Still and on Rabbit Hole with Cynthia, who won a lead actress Tony Award for her part in the drama.
The Little Foxes debuted on Broadway in 1939 and starred Tallulah Bankhead as Regina. Anne Bancroft, Elizabeth Taylor and Stockard Channing have also played the part on stage, while Bette Davis starred in William Wyler’s 1941 film adaptation. The play last hit Broadway in 1997.
