EXCLUSIVE: We’re hearing that Lionsgate’s La La Land and The Weinstein Company’s Lion are running neck-and-neck as final prizes are due to be handed out today at the Capri Hollywood International Film Festival.
We understand La La Land is likely to take the best picture prize with Lion winning the jury prize. Lion also is expected to win Best Supporting Actor for Dev Patel; Best Supporting Actress for Nicole Kidman; and Best Original Song for Sia’s “Never Give Up.” La La Land previously won Ensemble Cast and Original Score and also is expected to scoop some other important prizes today as the event wraps on the Italian island.
Lion had previously secured the Best Adapted Screenplay prize for Luke Davies’ adaptation of Saroo Brierley’s book memoir A Long Way Home. Both crowd-pleasers, La La Land and Lion have been close before. The former won the People’s Choice Award in Toronto this past September and Lion was the runner-up.
