The Almost Famous beauty, who was raised by Kurt and has long considered him her father, first teamed up with the actor last year (15) as they filmed oil drama Deepwater Horizon, which is due out this autumn (16).
And now the two are collaborating once again for a television series called The Barbary Coast, centred on the madness surrounding the California Gold Rush era in the late 1800s.
The series is even more of a family affair as Kate’s biological brother, Oliver Hudson, and Kurt’s son with Goldie, Wyatt Russell, will also serve as executive producers alongside Kurt and Kate.
The project also re-teams Kurt and Mel, who worked together on the 1988 thriller Tequila Sunrise. Mel will direct and co-write the show, and will also step in front of the camera with a recurring role.
“Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means,” producer Mark Gordon told The Wrap.
