Kerry Katona has dramatically revealed how she once helped her mother take a potentially fatal overdose of prescription drugs, apparently egging her on by telling her: “Go on, take them, you’re selfish!”
The 36 year old former Atomic Kitten star features on Channel 5’s ‘In Therapy’ programme, due to be broadcast on November 3rd, and broke down in tears as she admitted to encouraging her drug-addicted mother, Sue, in her suicide attempt back when she was a teenager.

“When I was 15, my mum had lost her boyfriend and she wanted to die,” Katona tearfully told the show in an in-depth interview, revealing that she encouraged her to take all the pills and tablets in their house.
“It got to the point where I went into her bathroom and I got all her medicines out and said, ‘Go on, take them, you’re selfish’. I made her take all the pills, then I rang for an ambulance and told her I’d pick her up after school, after I’d done my GCSEs.”

Having battled addiction and depression herself throughout her life, Katona also admitted that she’s worried that her condition might be hereditary – and tattooed her children’s names on her wrists to prevent her from ever cutting them.
“If it’s hereditary I’d have to be one selfish person to cut through my kids’ names, so that’s why they’re there,” she said. “I’m so proud of how my kids have turned out and that’s down to me.”
Kerry has had five children from her three marriages – Molly (15) and Lily-Sue (13) with first husband Brian McFadden (of Westlife); Heidi (8) and Max (7) with Mark Croft; and two year old Dylan-Jorge with third husband George Kay, whom she divorced in October last year following his arrest for alleged assault in their family home.
