Rogers explained how, after seven decades working in the music industry, he wants to spend more time with his family.
“I’ve done this long enough. Sometimes there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish, and I think I crossed that line when I was younger,” Rogers explained during his appearance on the Today show. “I really want to be there with my kids and my wife. I don’t see enough of them. And I have some things on my bucket list.”
Rogers announced he will be heading out on one final world tour before he retires. No details were given at the time of his appearance. Before then, Rogers is set to embark on his annual Christmas tour of the U.S. and Canada. Rogers will visit 26 cities across North America starting on 11th November and end his tour on 23rd December. He has also released a new album, Once Again It’s Christmas.
Rogers may be retiring from the music industry but he’s going to continue working on his other great passion, photography. According to reports in Rolling Stone, Rogers is currently working on two books of photography. Rogers hasn’t released a book of photography in almost 30 years. He has previously published two books of photography: Kenny Rogers’ America (1986) and Your Friends and Mine (1987).
“There are probably 550 pictures, so there will be at least two books,” Rogers said. “One will be called American Beauty, and it’s all waterfalls and beautiful canyon shots. It’s really spectacular. And the other will be places I’ve been and things I’ve seen, and it’ll be pictures from China, Africa, Europe, Switzerland – over the Alps in a helicopter.”
