Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) made his big announcement on Tuesday, telling a crowd in Louisville that he’s running for president in 2016.
But as Jon Stewart pointed out on Tuesday night’s “Daily Show,” it took a while to get there.
Before Paul went onstage, there were multiple speakers, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of the national anthem and several video presentations — including one that featured a clip from “The Daily Show.”
“Thirty minutes into the show, I had said more at this event than the guy who was there to announce his candidacy for president,” Stewart said.
Along with taking forever to get to the announcement, there were a few weird moments, like when former congressman J.C. Watts (R-Okla.) slipped and said Paul would become “the next United States of America,” as well as a very excited young man in the audience.
Check it out in the clip above.
