After Mitt Romney lost the presidential race against Barack Obama in 2012, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the party desperately needed an image makeover. The GOP had to win the votes of Latino and women voters if they wanted to have a shot at the next election. And Republicans had to shed the image of being the “party of the rich” comprised of “stuffy old men.”
With the 2016 election approaching, how is Priebus’ plan going? According to Jon Stewart, it’s not looking good.
“The living embodiment of everything Republicans were trying to exorcise from their party just escalated down on their parade,” Stewart said on “The Daily Show” Thursday night, referring to Donald Trump, who’s currently leading the GOP polls.
“This Trump guy is a rich, crazy, egotistical monster,” Stewart said. “People like him are supposed to buy the candidates, not be them.”

Stewart’s tenure as “The Daily Show” host will end in a week. His last day is August 6.
