Johnny Depp Jokes About Resolving Australian Dog Deportation Drama: ”I Killed My Dogs and Ate Them”

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s two Yorkshire terriers, Boo and Pistol, caused quite a scandal earlier this year when the famous couple disobeyed Australia’s animal import laws and transported the pups into the country without permits or a period in quarantine.

Almost immediately after learning that the Hollywood duo had traveled Down Under with their four-legged friends in tow, local quarantine authorities ordered the Depps to fly their dogs out of the country.

The famous couple did just that, via private jet, and the Black Mass star finally broke his silence on the debacle during a press conference today at the Venice Film Festival.

“I killed my dogs and ate them under direct orders from some kind of, I don’t know, sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia,” the 52-year-old actor sarcastically told the crowd.

Several months back, Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce accused Depp of smuggling his dogs aboard his private plane when he arrived in Australia on Apr. 21 to resume filming of the fifth installment in Walt Disney Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Joyce gave Depp 50 hours to remove the animals from Australian soil.

Depp injured his hand back in March which caused him to fly back to the U.S. briefly to undergo surgery.

It was upon his return in April, via a private jet, that Depp failed to declare his Yorkshire Terriers.

Well, at least the actor is able to keep a sense of humor about the Down Under drama!
