Jessie J has been making waves on the season curtain-raiser of ‘The Voice Australia’, ruffling the feathers of her fellow judges with her frank and forthright opinions.
Sunday night (June 28th) saw the fourth season of the talent show make its premiere on the Nine network. The English pop star has stepped in to replace the exiting will.i.am, while there are other new additions in the form of Delta Goodrem replacing Kylie Minogue and Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, who joins his elder brother Joel to form one ‘Team Madden’. Ricky Martin is the fourth panellist.
Jessie J rubbed all of her fellow ‘The Voice Australia’ judges up the wrong way
First of all, she gave a performance of last year’s hit single ‘Bang Bang’ with the help of her fellow judges. But that was where the cordiality seemed to end, as Jessie wasted no time in bagging two singers for her team in the first round of blind auditions, at the same time not holding anything back as her rivals made (or tried to make) their selections, according to the MailOnline.

51 year old Gail Page, the stand-out singer of the episode and for whom all the judges except Jessie turned their chairs around, was the focus of one of the heated exchanges. The mother-of-two had failed at the audition stage in season one, but impressed three of the judges this time.
She eventually chose Ricky Martin to her mentor, after he had argued with Jessie as to why she wasn’t impressed by Page. “It wasn’t as great as everyone here is making you think it was and I think you know that,” Jessie had told her, calling her choice of song as “too safe”.
“Wait a minute Jess, you’re telling me that I’m not honest,” Ricky responded, taking the bait and adding “I felt very passionate about what she did”. As the crowd heckled Jessie, she quietened them saying “we’re not on a game show”, before wishing Page all the best.
Meanwhile, Jessie also caused a flashpoint with Delta Goodrem as she sought to offer some unwanted advice to her rival’s new recruit Nicolas Duquemin after his performance. Goodrem seemed to force an unnatural smile as she gently pushed Jessie off to the side. Watch this space…
Finally, she won out in a bidding war over 16 year old Paris Cassar, nabbing the youngster from under the noses of the Madden brothers, who were visibly a bit annoyed. The brothers are the only team not to have bagged a contestant yet, with some divisions between them emerging in the post-episode interviews.
The blind auditions continue on Monday (June 29th).
