Jeremy Clarkson will face no further police action despite the BBC confirming that he attacked his Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon – an incident that led to his sacking. North Yorkshire Police said it had “completed its routine inquiries” into the incident and would “not be pursuing this matter any further.”

In a statement it said: North Yorkshire Police has now completed its routine enquiries following the incident at Hawes involving Mr Jeremy Clarkson, and we will not be pursuing this matter any further.

“North Yorkshire Police takes a thorough and victim-led approach to all investigations. Last week, the person at the centre of the incident, Mr Tymon, said that he did not wish the police to take action on his behalf.
“However, at that point we still needed to speak to some members of the public who were present at the time of the incident, who had been affected by the event, and whose views also needed to be considered.

Clarkson, 54, was sacked as Top Gear presenter after an internal BBC investigation found that he physically assaulted producer Tymon after being told there was no hot food available following a day of filming.
Mr Tymon sustained a split lip during a 30 second attack and drove himself to a local hospital for treatment.
Clarkson reported himself to BBC management over the incident.
The former X-Factor host Dermot O’Leary remains the bookies favourite to take over from Clarkson as Top Gear host. Jodie Kidd and Chris Evans are next in the betting, despite the latter ruling himself out.
