Hailee Steinfeld‘s major music debut is an ode to self-love—she doesn’t want anybody else.
The 18-year-old True Grit and Pitch Perfect 2 actress, Taylor Swift squad member and recent high school graduate released her first single. The track, “Love Myself,” this week on iTunes and was also posted on YouTube.
“We’re fed this false sort of sense of what we’re supposed to be like in order to love ourselves,” Steinfeld said on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show on Friday. “I think this song…kind of highlights the power of loving yourself and empowering yourself.”
In the fast-paced, pulsing pop-dance track, Steinfeld declares, “Gonna love myself, no, I don’t need anybody else.” The song also includes lyrics such as, “When I get chills at night / I feel it deep inside without you, yeah,” and “I’m gonna put my body first / And love me so hard ’til it hurts.”

Steinfeld had previously showed off her singing skills in Pitch Perfect 2 and also appears on the soundtrack of the 2013 movie Begin Again.
“Honestly, music has always been such a huge part of my life and always a part of my plan,” Steinfeld said on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. “I made Pitch Perfect 2 last year and after that, I kind of just fell into making this. It all happened very organically and it’s been amazing! I’ve made time and I’ve fallen in love with the whole process.”
Steinfeld is signed to Republic Records, which works with Swift.
The actress plays The Trinity in the singer’s “Bad Blood” music video, which features a slew of celebrity pals. Steinfeld and several of them have appeared onstage at the singer’s concerts during her 1989 tour.
As of Friday afternoon, Swift, 25, has not commented about Steinfeld’s single. However, celebs such as Arrow star Colton Haynes and Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, who starred with the actress in the film Barely Lethal, tweeted their support.
“So stoked for !” the actor wrote. “Her 1st single is out & its a smash. Awesome vocals & such a nice person.”
“I’m so proud,” Turner tweeted. “Everybody go get Love Myself. What. A. Bangerrrrr.”
