Bosses at America’s Epix network has given a series order to Get Shorty, an adaptation of the 1990 novel by late author Elmore Leonard.
The hour-long drama is created and executive produced by TV veteran Davey Holmes, whose credits include acclaimed series such as Shameless, In Treatment and Damages.
“I had the pleasure of working with Elmore Leonard early in my career and I am a big fan of his writing,” Epix president and CEO Mark S. Greenberg said in a statement. “Davey Holmes is a tremendous talent and has created a fantastic new series that is in the spirit of Leonard’s unique brand of social satire and strong narrative voice.”
Leonard’s novel was famously adapted for the big screen in a 1995 film starring John Travolta, Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman and Rene Russo.
Be Cool, the 2005 sequel to Get Shorty, saw the reunion of Travolta and DeVito and also starred Uma Thurman and Vince Vaughn.
The TV cast of Get Shorty has yet to be announced, but production is set to begin this autumn (16), with a premiere slated for next summer (17).
