The Precious star missed out on the chance to get in the saddle when she was a kid because she had to give up her bicycle when her brother’s was stolen, and she thought she’d get a second chance during a tandem scene with Laura Linney in hit TV series The Big C.
“I was like, ‘You guys, I actually can’t ride a bike’, so they actually hired stuntmen to teach me how to ride a bike, and after two hours this, like, professional stuntman said, ‘In my professional opinion you will never be able to ride a bike’.”
But Gabby never gave up on her dream and now she rides a large tricycle behind the scenes of TV drama Empire after asking her agent to help her find a way of getting from one set to another as quickly as possible.
She showed off her cycling skills during a recent appearance on Harry Connick Jr.’s chat show by challenging the crooner to a race outside his studio.
The two strapped on helmets and pedalled off with Gabourey winning the short race.
