In the show, Édgar Ramírez takes on the titular designer, with Ricky Martin stepping in to play his long-term partner Antonio D’Amico. Penélope Cruz is Gianni’s sister Donatella Versace, whilst Darren Criss slips into the role of the villainous Andrew Cunanan; a serial killer who eventually pulls the trigger and kills Versace on the steps of his home.
Though it was originally touted to be the third season of the anthology series, showrunners decided to bring it ahead and spend more time in pre-production for what would have been premiering in its place; ‘American Crime Story: Katrina’.
Annette Bening is set to star in that show as Kathleen Blanco, with Matthew Broderick as Michael D. Brown and Dennis Quaid as George W. Bush. Long-time Ryan Murphy collaborator Sarah Paulson has also been announced to star in the guest role of Dr. Anna Pou.
Ryan Murphy is bringing ‘American Crime Story’ back to the small screen in 2018
Exactly when that will hit the small screen remains to be seen, but it’s said that those behind-the-scenes are working on getting it to air before the end of 2018, meaning two separate seasons of ‘ACS’ before the end of 2018.
Meanwhile, early preparations are in place for a fourth season covering the Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton sex scandal that took place during Clinton’s presidency, based on the book ‘A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President’.
