Legendary funk musician George Clinton and comedians Byron Bowers and Anders Holm have joined the cast of Kuso, the debut directorial feature from acclaimed rapper and DJ Flying Lotus. It’s the first movie from Brainfeeder films and is currently filming in Los Angeles. The story follows the aftermath of Los Angeles’ worst quake nightmare. Broadcasting through a makeshift network of discarded televisions, travel between screens and between aftershocks into the twisted lives of the survivors. Filmmaker Eddie Alcazar is producing the pic. Flying Lotus, AKA Steven Ellison, is best known as an artist whose music has been frequently featured on Adult Swim, and for his acclaimed musical fusion albums featuring contributions by artists such as Snoop Dogg, among others.
Former NFL player Thomas Q. Jones will star in the MMA thriller Choke Hold, helmed by Matthew Berkowitz (Wild In Blue), which he also co-wrote with Justin Steele. Shooting is set to begin next month. The action drama is about a fighter (Jones) who becomes a viral sensation when he beats the undefeated MMA champ in a local sparring match. The pic co-stars Chuck Liddell, Denise Richards, John Lewis, Khalilah Joi Dubose, Isaach De Bankole and Bruce Davison. Jones will serve as EP of the film that marks the first for his production company IME Films. Steele and former MMA champion John Lewis are producing. Jones currently portrays Comanche on the newly released Netflix series Luke Cage.
