The Requiem for a Dream star has previously worked behind the scenes as an executive producer for her 2001 TV movie Within These Walls, but now she wants to take charge of a film project herself.
Ellen reveals she has already started the development process, but finding funding for the film has already proven to be a tough task.
“I have a script called Bathing Slow that I just love and I wanna act in it and direct, so that’s a new challenge I’m looking forward to,” she explained to U.S. breakfast show Today. “We’re in the process of raising money, which is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life!”
Ellen is currently enjoying positive reviews of her new role in the fourth season of political drama House of Cards, in which she portrays Elizabeth Hale, the mother of Robin Wright’s calculated character, First Lady Claire Underwood.
Robin directed a number of her episodes with Ellen, and the 83-year-old admits she was watching closely to pick up a few tips for her own filmmaking plans.
“I’ve never had the experience of acting and directing, so it was wonderful to watch Robin going in and out of character, from behind the camera to in front of it,” she told Vulture.com. “She’s very good and the crew just loves her. They’re so happy when she’s directing. She’s such an interesting woman – very smart but also has Claire’s reserve. But she’s not mean (like her character).”
The script for Bathing Slow was written by actress Lauren Lake. A time frame for the project has yet to be set.
