‘Power Rangers’ returns in an all new re-boot produced by original series creator Haim Saban. Everything from the costumes to the characters have been given an upgrade, so this isn’t quite like the TV show and subsequent films you remember from the 90s.
No more lycra for these Power Rangers
‘Saban’s Power Rangers’ is the third movie in the franchise after ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie’ and ‘Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie’ and a re-boot of the whole series. Directed by Dean Israelite (‘Project Almanac’) with a screenplay by Oscar nominated John Gatins (‘Flight’, ‘Real Steel’), the movie stars the likes of pop singer Becky G and Primetime Emmy nominated actress Elizabeth Banks.
Becky G and Elizabeth Banks get vicious
Zack Taylor (Ludi Lin), Kimberly Hart (Naomi Scott), Billy Cranston (RJ Cyler), Trini (Becky G) and Jason Lee Scott (Dacre Montgomery) – the Black, Pink, Blue, Yellow and Red Ranger respectively – are just a group of high school teenagers living among each other in Angel Grove, with all the problems you’d expect from troubled youths. Except, they are not ‘just’ that. One minute their lives are plagued by petty crime, bullies and family issues and the next they have the strength to smash heavy objects, their skeletons are as hard as reinforced metal, and their agility far outweighs that of the greatest human athlete.

These newfound abilities were not presented to them for their everyday Earth threats, however, and they soon find themselves in the midst of an oncoming alien invasion led by the mystical force Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks), who plans to decimate their world. It’s these teens’ destiny to protect the planet from this new menace, and – with the help of their mentor Zordon (Bryan Cranston) and his assistant Alpha 5 (Bill Hader) – team together as the Power Rangers to defeat the enemy once and for all.
‘Power Rangers’ is set to be released in US movie theaters on March 24th 2017.
