“Would either of you name one positive thing you respect in one another,” a voter asked the two candidates in closing the second, town-hall presidential debate. The debate ran long so that they could sneak in this last question after a slugfest of a debate marked by historic levels of mud hurling.

“I certainly will, because I think that’s a very fair and important question,” Clinton said, getting the first at-bat. “I respect his children. His children are incredibly able and deoted to him and that says a lot about Donald. I don’t agree with nearly anything else he says or does. But I do respect that…as a mother and grandmother that’s very important to me.

Trump’s turn:

“I will say this about Hillary; she doesn’t quit and she doesn’t give up. I respect that. She’s a fighter. I disagree with much of what she’s fighting for…But she does fight hard, and doesn’t quit, and I consider that to be a very good trait.”

Trump’s compliment seems pretty rich, given that he has repeatedly questioned whether she had “stamina,” by way of saying she’s not fit for the Oval Office.
