Noxon lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday (03May16), surrounded by family at his home in Westlake Village, California.
He had a long partnership with National Geographic and, in 1985, he produced the company’s film Secrets of the Titanic, in which he joined Dr. Robert Ballard’s expedition in the North Atlantic to explore the wreckage of the doomed ship.
The movie included the first images of the ocean liner, and subsequently inspired James Cameron to develop his 1997 blockbuster feature film Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
Noxon also wrote and produced projects in association with U.S. network ABC, Columbia Pictures Television and MGM, among others.
Through his deal with National Geographic, he and his team won 58 Emmy Awards, and also was honoured with four Peabody Awards and two Dupont Columbia awards for Broadcast Journalism.
His daughter Marti Noxon is also a writer and producer, previously working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and currently executive producing TV dramas Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, UnREAL and medical series Code Black.
