Prepare to become enchanted, bewitched and nostalgic all at the same time.
The latest trailer for Disney’s highly anticipated feature adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods has been released, and it’s star-studded cast is illuminating. No, seriously, it’s like they have special fairy dust sprinkled on them or something. Except for Meryl Streep who plays a scary witch.
And finally, there’s singing! Not too much, but we do hear some vocals from a few A-listers.
The movie musical tells the story of a baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) and their quest to have a child. It culls characters from a variety of fairy tales, including Cinderella (Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford and Johnny Depp) Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone and Tracey Ullman) and Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy).

The film adaptation features songs from the stage show, including “Agony,” “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “No One Is Alone” and “On the Steps of the Palace.”
Two new songs also made the cut.
The musical also stars Christine Baranski, Simon Russell Beale, Tammy Blanchard, Annette Crosbie, Frances de la Tour, Richard Glover, Billy Magnussen, Lucy Punch, Joanna Riding and Tracey Ullman. Academy Award winner Rob Marshall directed the film.
However it will be a little different than the staged show. When a teacher raised concerns about the relationship between Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, citing “infidelity, a wolf being lascivious, that the whole connection with Red Riding Hood is sexual,” Sondheim replied, “Well, you’ll be happy to know that Disney had the same objections.” He added, “You will find in the movie that Rapunzel does not get killed, and the prince does not sleep with the [Baker’s Wife]…You know, if I were a Disney executive, I probably would say the same thing.”
Into the Woods hits theaters this Christmas.
