It’s a 24 reunion! 24 alum Mykelti Williamson is set for a recurring role on Designated Survivor, the new ABC drama series toplined by 24 star Kiefer Sutherland, from The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios.
In Designated Survivor, Sutherland stars as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member, who unexpectedly becomes President after a devastating attack on Washington. He will struggle to prevent the country and his own family from falling into chaos, as he is thrust into one of the most difficult presidencies in history. Williamson will play Admiral Chernow, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a forthright and intelligent career military man who quickly becomes one of President Kirkman’s most trusted advisors.
Williamson played Brian Hastings, Director of CTU New York, on the eighth season of Fox’s 24 opposite Sutherland’s Jack Bauer. He previously recurred on Underground and Justified and co-stars in Denzel Washington’s Fences, which is generating pre-release buzz. Williamson is repped by Paradigm and Frontline Management.
David Guggenheim is creator and executive producer of Designated Survivor. Simon Kinberg, Sutherland, Mark Gordon, Nick Pepper, Suzan Bymel, and Aditya Sood also executive produce. Paul McGuigan directed the pilot episode, and Jon Feldman serves as showrunner. Natascha McElhone, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci and LaMonica Garrett co-star.
Designated Survivor premieres September 21 at 10 PM on ABC.
