The right shoe will make or break your outfit.
Most days your go-to sneakers or neutral heels are a solid and practical footwear choice. However, for those times when you want to step up your outfit, no regularly rotated pair will do.
But we’re not just talking about a tricky-to-wear statement shoe that you only wear once. Selecting a pair that makes an impact but that’s also versatile enough to wear again and again is a tall order. To fit the bill, we have our eyes peeled for open-toe stunners with boho details. No, you probably won’t be wearing Jamie Chung‘s stiletto take to the desert for festival season outings, but a chic shoe with a touch of tassel is a surefire way to upgrade almost any outfit this season.

Think Bold: Any instance in which you’re wearing a tasseled shoe is no occasion to pull the wallflower card. If you’re going for it with the details, pull out all the stops and choose a pair that’s bright and colorful, too. Jamie had the right idea with a vivid red pair, but you can make just as much of a statement in, say, a yellow or a cobalt blue hue.
Dress It Up or Down: As the actress perfectly demonstrates, this shoe, especially in a heeled variety, really balances out a more formal-leaning outfit. If you’re wearing a dress that’s on the fancier side, sometimes a classic heel can feel too matronly or stuffy. To give your outfit a modern girl twist, edgy tassels are just the ticket. Similar to playing down a fancy outfit, fringe details work excellently in the opposite direction as well. Just pair those cutoffs or that simple sundress with a flat pair, and suddenly your casual look just went from basic to chic.

Get the Material Right: Tassels are tiny but impactful. Whether you do the whimsical accent in a bold color or a more muted shade, a suede texture is going to be your best bet. Unless you’re wearing suede fabric as an item of clothing, (which is another trend we love for a different time) a pop of the texture at your feet is going to add that luxe feel to any outfit—casual or dressy.
