My how times have changed.
A few months ago, when we heard the line-up for this season of Dancing With the Stars, and we were like, “Who?” There were a few familiar faces, but for the most part, it seemed like they were reaching a bit with their definition of the word “star.” It seemed like it was the beginning of the end for this long-running reality powerhouse.
Now, here we are at the finale, and we don’t want to say goodbye. We fell in love with season 19 and its odd assortment of vaguely famous contestants, and we are going to miss them all.
Anyway, tonight was the end of the road for all of the contestants, and another champion has been crowned, and it is no surprise whatsoever that it was Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson.
Those two have killed it week after week despite them both occasionally being injured, and Alfonso never let us forget that he has wanted to compete on Dancing With the Stars since it first started, nearly ten years ago. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star was never not a joy to watch up there on that stage and in our opinion, he absolutely deserves this win.
NEWS: Who didn’t make it to the top 3 of DWTS?
Of course, it didn’t take two hours to tell us who won, and the night was filled with great performances. Not only did all of the contestants come back to reprise one of their routines, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, and Meghan Trainor also showed up to sing us some songs. There was also a fun Fresh Prince theme song parody featuring the top four dancers, who mostly cannot rap.
However, the night wasn’t all fun and games. The three remaining contestants had been tasked with putting together one last routine in less than 24 hours to get one last round of scores from the judges. Unsurprisingly, all of the routines received rave reviews and perfect scores, though the judges pointedly said a lot more about Sadie Robertson’s growth on the show in general than about her actual performance.
In the end, Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy (who we will never believe are not involved in a seriously passionate romance) received third place, putting Sadie and Mark at second. While second and third place could have gone either way, the win for Alfonso and Witney was the perfect way to end a pretty great season.
The only way it could have been better was if Will Smith had shown up, but alas, the Fresh Prince was not in the house (at least as far as we know).
So do you agree that the right couple walked away with the trophy? Let us know in the comments!
Did you know these DWTS hook-ups happened off the show?
