In a competitive situation, the CW has nabbed Straight Outta Heaven, an hourlong drama written and executive produced by John Singleton and Dallas Jackson. The project is being referred to as Touched by an Angel-meets-Ghost with an urban twist and described as a faith-based, hip-hop-infused guardian angel drama.
Warner Bros. TV is the studio. Straight Outta Heaven stems from a blind script deal Jackson had at the studio last season.
“John and I have similar genre taste and recognized a need on network television for the underserved urban youth audience and faith-based audience,” Jackson said. “The CW is the perfect home for this new kind of hero we’ve created who’s superpower is faith.”
This marks the second collaboration between Singleton and Jackson following BET drama Rebel, which shot a pilot this past summer. Singleton also has FX drama Snowfall, which was just ordered to series. He is repped by ICM Partners.
Jackson has several TV projects in development at Alcon TV, Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse’s Crypt TV. He’s also writing and producing the remake of The Last Dragon at Columbia Pictures.
