Carrie Fisher: ‘My New Star Wars Hair Reminds Me Of A Primate’s Rear End’

The 59 year old reprises her classic role as Princess Leia in the forthcoming film and depicts a more mature version of the character.

In the original movies Princess Leia’s hair buns became an iconic style, but Carrie fears her look in The Force Awakens will be more of a hair-don’t than a hairdo!

“I have a new hair style, very briefly, but it reminds me of a baboon a**,” she tells The Mirror newspaper.

Carrie did not elaborate further on the coif, which has not been seen by members of the general public ahead of the movie’s 18 December (15) release date.

After portraying Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977, the first film of the sci-fi franchise, Carrie became a sex symbol – a title she has never been able to come to terms with.

“My physical self and I are not friends,” Carrie explained, noting at one point during her life she became a “failed bulimic”. “We’re not speaking and I’m ignoring especially my arms lately. I’ve never liked my appearance.”

Although Carrie isn’t a fan of her looks, she refuses to undergo extensive plastic surgery to transform her appearance.

“I look melted and I look my age,” she said. “Unfortunately, I don’t want to look my age. I would do everything but have serious surgery for it and look like a weird fish with gills.”

Carrie has come a long way in terms of good heath – she suffered earlier in life, becoming a drug addict at the age of 23. At 24, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and, at the height of a self-loathing period, she even treated her mental affliction with electroshock therapy – a procedure used on psychiatric patients in which a machine creates electrically induced seizures.

“(I did it) every six weeks to blow apart the cement in my brain,” she recalled.

After a spell in hospital in 2013, Carrie insists she has grown to embrace her life with bipolar disorder.

“I’ve actually been in a good place for a while, but I have lived with this thing for a long time,” she said. “I’ve learned you need to find other people that have had more struggles. Find your tribe. Don’t wander around feeling different than everyone else.”
