Is Inside Amy Schumer done? Yes, at least according to series co-creator and star Amy Schumer herself, who appeared to announce tonight on Twitter that the series has ended. “We aren’t making the show anymore,” she said.
The Trainwreck star made the announcement tonight in response to a surging controversy over her professional relationship with writer-comedian Kurt Metzger. Meztger ignited a firestorm this week after a series of tweets in which he mocked and ridiculed women who report sexual assault. Furiously criticized by other comics and fans alike for the comments, Meztger’s gig writing for Inside Amy Schumer drew particular focus due to the show’s openly feminist themes and Schumer’s comments about women and sexual assault.
This led to thousands of tweets aimed at Schumer, demanding to know why she continued to employ Metzger. Schumer publicly condemned him, noting that he is a friend but that “his words are not mine,” and saying that their friendship has been severely damaged by the comments. She also insisted that Metzger did not work for her, saying bluntly “he is not a writer on my show.” This failed to quell the matter however, prompting Schumer to announce the end of her show with this brief statement:
If Schumer isn’t kidding (or venting frustration at fans), the end of Inside Amy Schumer comes despite the fact that Comedy Central green lighted the series for a 5th season back in January.
