The stage version of ‘American Psycho’ is set to come to Broadway, with producers agreeing with the Shubert Organisation to open their show in February 2016 with Benjamin Walker in the lead role.
The Shubert Organisation is the biggest player on the famous New York strip, running 17 theaters. Though it hasn’t been disclosed yet, one of these will be the home of Duncan Sheik’s musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ darkly humorous satirical novel on ‘80s excess.
Benjamin Walker will be taking his portrayal of Patrick Bateman to Broadway
Rehearsals will begin on January 11th 2016, with preview performances on February 19th before opening to the public on March 21st, according to Deadline. Walker will be taking the lead role of Patrick Bateman, made famous by Christian Bale in the 2000 movie adaptation. However, there’s no news as yet as to whether Smith’s original co-stars Susannah Fielding, Jonathan Bailey and Ben Aldridge will be returning in their respective roles.

‘American Psycho’ had its world premiere in London in December 2013, with ex-‘Doctor Who’ Matt Smith taking the role of young Wall St. mover and sociopathic murderer Bateman. A popular initial run ended last year, but soon afterwards it was revived with Walker taking the lead part, under the direction of Rupert Goold.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Ben’s work on stage and screen and am really looking forward to working with him on ‘American Psycho’,” said Goold at the time. “He is an enormous talent and I think audiences will be utterly seduced by his dangerous charisma and extraordinary stage presence. He’ll make a killer Patrick Bateman.”
Walker has starred in a number of stage productions, notably as Brick in the 2012-2013 production of ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ alongside Scarlett Johansson and the musical ‘Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson’ in 2007. He’s also known for his big screen work in Flags of Our Fathers and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
