The Dark Shadows star passed away on 19 February (16).
Astredo began his career as a theatre actor and made his Broadway debut in the role of Cassio in Othello, opposite James Earl Jones in 1964. After studying at New York’s The Actors Studio under renowned thespian Lee Strasberg, he played Sergius in Arms and the Man and also appeared with Gene Hackman in Fragments.
In 1968, Astredo was cast as warlock Nicholas Blair in the popular U.S. TV show Dark Shadows. He also starred as Dr. Forbes in House of Dark Shadows in 1970.
In addition to his stagework and Dark Shadows, Astredo appeared in soap operas Another World, The Edge of Night, The Guiding Light, Love of Life, and Loving.
He also made his West End debut in London in 1982 in The Little Foxes with Elizabeth Taylor.
