Lady Gaga’s Carpool Karaoke debuted tonight on CBS’s Late Late Show, in which Corden modeled some of the singer’s most iconic outfits including yes, the meat dress. Also during their commute, Gaga explained why she owns about 400 pieces of Michael Jackson’s clothing, including glove, and Corden advised her the best way to warm up her vocal cords before performing at the Super Bowl halftime show is to repeat “Benedict Cumberbatch is Sherlock Holmes” for several minutes.
The platinum-selling pop singer, made a “surprise” visit to Late Late Show to unveil the video, and stuck around for the entire broadcast, singing with the Reggie and band. The video arrived three days after Gaga’s turn as music guest on NBC’s Saturday Night Live – and a few months before her Super Bowl gig.
Corden struck gold in 2015 with his ongoing Carpool Karaoke segments. A CBS primetime special devoted to the viral franchise last month won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special. Plenty of musical celebs, and First Lady Michelle Obama, have signed up to sing in Corden’s car. Adele remains the queen of Carpool Karaoke; released in January, the video in which Corden, while home in London for the holidays, picks up Adele for a drive around the city, has surpassed 130M views on YouTube. For comparison, First Lady Michelle Obama’s Carpool Karaoke, in which Corden’s car was tailed by Secret Service while they drove around the White House, has hit 45M since its July release. Britney Spears’ iteration, released in August, has logged 25M.
