Olivia Culpo Believes Basic Education Is a Fundamental Right:

Olivia Culpo has a long history of giving back to the community both nationally and abroad having worked with Many Hopes Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and most recently has been announced as an ambassador of Pencils of Promise.

Pencils of Promise was founded in 2008 with hopes of increasing access to education in the developing world. Initially breaking ground in Ghana in 2012, just a few years later the organization has completed 64 school builds with another 35 in progress.

“As soon as I saw firsthand what they were doing and heard their mission I wanted to get more involved” the former beauty queen told E! News in an exclusive interview, “I was in Guatemala at a school ground breaking ceremony at the PoP team surprised me and asked me to be an ambassador. I jumped up and down.”

“I love working with children and I understand how important education is to reach your true potential. I am shocked by the degree of illiteracy there is in the world. I believe basic education is fundamental right. Everyone deserves that right. PoP is helping people help themselves and that really speaks to me” the brunette model continued. 

Justin Bieber was also named an ambassador of the organization and has been donating $ 1 for every ticket sold during his 2010 My World tour, 2012 Believe tour, and his current Purpose tour to PoP, “I’m excited we’re able to educate more kids in Ghana because of the Purpose Tour, this is amazing” Bieber said whilst surprised with the honor after his sold-out show at the Barclays Center in May.

With the efforts of both Justin and Olivia they are helping to change millions of lives who otherwise would lack basic reading or writing skills.
