Still reeling from that cliffhanger?
Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panetierre) was about the only character who might not have found her happy ending at the end of the Nashville series finale. After Juliette had gone public with her depression, rehab stint, and suicide attempt, she got on a plane to head home to her ex-husband and child. In the very last moments of the episode, Avery learned that the plane had been lost, and Juliette’s fate was unknown.
That ending was a major blow to fans who were hoping to see Juliette and Avery happy together—or at least alive—at the end of the series, but could the cliffhanger have been a last-ditch effort to save the series?
Directly after the episode ended, Lionsgate TV, the studio that owns Nashville, tweeted, “What a cliffhanger! But we won’t leave you hanging. There’s more story to be told. #BringBackNashville.”
According to TVLine, there was an alternate ending that featured a happy reunion between Juliette and Avery, but it was scrapped in the hopes that the cliffhanger would encourage another platform to pick up the series.
Last week, Lionsgate TV revealed on Twitter that they were having “numerous talks” with interested networks about picking up the show elsewhere, and they encouraged fans to keep up the hashtag campaign to #BringBackNashville.
While there’s no word yet on if, when, or where the show could actually return, hopefully we will at least get to see a true ending to Juliette’s story one way or another.
