The star passed away on Monday (23May16) at the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York.
Fleishaker first appeared in 1988’s Troma War and went on to star in several B-movies, including I Spill Your Guts, The Toxic Avenger Part II and Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.
Paying tribute to Fleishaker on Facebook.com, director Lloyd Kaufman writes, “The Troma Team and I are saddened by the news that Joe Fleishaker has passed away. He was a great actor and a great friend. Toxie weeps. RIP Joe, Troma will never be the same without you.”
In 2012, Fleishaker was hospitalised and diagnosed with kidney, heart and lung failure. He lost 160 pounds, but didn’t regain his ability to walk.
Prior to his death, Fleishaker suffered from morbid obesity and congestive heart failure, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
