Luke leads the cast of the film version of James Bowen’s book, which tells the story of how a cat helped him turn his life around, and the shoot has been taking place in north London.
James has now revealed he spent time with Luke after he landed the role, and the actor got into character by sleeping rough for real.
“I’m incredibly honoured that Luke Treadaway chose to take on the role, ” James tells BBC Breakfast. “He is so dedicated to it, he actually went out and slept rough and busked – feeling what it’s like to be invisible.”
James goes on to reveal movie bosses originally decided to use stunt cats to play Bob in the film, but the feisty feline became part of his own movie after spending time on set with Luke.
He adds, “Luke and Bob have been getting on incredibly well – he will happily ride on Luke’s shoulders… I believe originally a cat was cast to play Bob – Bob wasn’t supposed to be in the film. I brought Bob along to the set and he basically became the star of his own film. Five of the cats went back to Vancouver, and three stayed on for the other scenes… He just takes it in his stride.”
