Benedict Cumberbatch’s parents are backing Eddie Redmayne to win at the Oscars.
The ‘Imitation Game’ actor is nominated alongside the ‘Theory of Everything’ star in the Best Actor category at tonight’s (22.02.15) Academy Awards and whilst Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham are ”proud as punch” of their son, they think Eddie will ”clean the board”.
Wanda said: ”I’m so proud. I’m as proud as punch.
”We got here yesterday and we are so excited and happy. Though I think Eddie will clean the board.”
Timothy added: ”It’s such an exciting moment for us as a family. I don’t think even a good luck charm will work. Unless we count!
”I’m very proud. As an actor we understand how hard he’s had to work to get to this point.”
The 38-year-old star has had a great year so far, after tying the knot with Sophie Hunter last week.
Benedict – who first met Sophie on the set of ‘Burlesque Fairytales’ – is expecting a child with his new wife and his mother Wanda is incredibly excited about the new arrival.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: ”Benedict has had a busy few months and I’m so happy for him in every way.
”I’m already a grandmother but there’s a big gap and I can’t wait, fingers crossed. The nomination is everything.”
