I’ve used Clayton picks for over 20 years, I guess, and ordered some of these Sand Shark Acetal just to try them. I like them. There is a sandy substance right where your thumb goes. I’ve seen reviews where people say they don’t like them because they scrap the sand off the pick onto the strings. Maybe they consider the sandy side the bottom of the pick. Holding the sandy side under my thumb, I haven’t scraped the sand on the strings. Acetal picks are sort of sticky anyway, and adding a little sand to them makes them even stickier. Acetal picks are also practically indestuctible, so a pack of six will last you a long time unless you throw them at people. For what these cost, with shipping, you wouldn’t want to throw many of them.

My new favorite picks!, November 21, 2009

I heard about these hard to find Clayton picks on a message board that I frequent, and figured I would try to find some on Amazon and give them a try. I’ve been using Dunlop Tortex picks for a really long time, just because they’re ubiquitous and don’t slip out of my fingers too easily. The problem I have with them is that they wear down pretty quickly. I guess my playing style kind of makes me go through picks more quickly than most. I just kind of like really digging in and picking super fast during some big crescendo parts in my bands’ songs.

But someone said that whatever polymer they use in these picks makes them really strong, and they simply don’t wear down. I have found that they do eventually wear down (like I said, I’m rough on picks) but it takes quite a while. Exponentially longer in fact.

Also I really like that sandpapery stuff they put on there, in that shark logo. Definitely helps keep them from slipping out of my greasy, sweaty fingers when I’m really going for it.

    Highly recommended!
