Well, that’s a first, a celebrity willingly admitting they’ve been cheating! …At cards, that is. Ben Affleck has admitted that he was counting cards whilst playing Blackjack, hence his ejection from a Las Vegas casino earlier this year.
Affleck previously played down the reports about him being ejected from a casino
NY Daily News reports on Affleck’s new interview with Details magazine, where he confirms that the rumours which have swirled for the past few months are true, in a roundabout sort of way. “That is a true story,” Affleck said. “I took some time to learn the game and became a decent blackjack player. And once I became decent, the casinos asked me not to play blackjack.”

But Affleck said there was no ill-feeling between himself and the casinos: “There were a number of casinos that said, ‘Hey, you can’t play blackjack here. We know you count cards. But, you know, you’re welcome to come, do whatever you want, see a show, have dinner. We’ll comp ya. Play roulette, we know you don’t play craps, but hang out, we still want your presence and business.'”
Counting cards is not illegal, but is generally frowned upon by casinos and it is not uncommon for patrons to be asked to leave if they are caught doing it. Affleck had maintained a studious silence on the incident prior to his interview with Details but seemed to want to set the record straight. He also called rumours that his gambling had impacted badly on his marriage to Jennifer Garner “bull—-.”
Affleck’s latest film, thriller Gone Girl co-starring British actress Rosamund Pike, will hit U.S cinemas on October 3rd. He is currently filming Batman vs Superman which will be released in 2016.
