So, the question on everybody’s lips is “who should play Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?” We’re seriously excited about the project and have pulled together a list of a few actors that we think would suit the role. Sorry Americans, like Harry Potter, this role has to be reserved for the Brits!
Would Jamie Campbell Bower make a good Newt Scamander?
Jamie Campbell Bower
OK, OK, we know that Jamie played the young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but please, this is Hollywood! That was 4 years ago now and production could easily do something to change his look a little bit. He’s nearly precisely the right age to play Scamander, who should be around 23 years old in the movie, he’s also got that sort of cool/androgynous look we imagine Scamander to have.

Nicholas Hoult
Nicholas Hoult is a great young British actor and has proved his versatility going from About a Boy to Skins and then onto some huge Hollywood films. He’s also got his fair share of experience in the sci-fi genre, having played Beast in the X-Men films. Hoult has a certain quirky look about him as well, which would lend itself well to the role.
Max Irons
Max, the impossibly good looking son of actor Jeremy Irons, is a promising up-and-coming actor. In recent years 28 year old Max has come into his own as an actor and landed a lead role in the 2013 sci-fi thriller The Host.
Youthful looking Eddie Redmayne would make a great Newt Scamander

So, at 32 Redmayne is about a decade older than the character, but he’s very youthful looking and could definitely pull off a younger character. He’s been gaining popularity over the years, particularly after he landed the role of Marius in the Oscar-winning flick Les Miserables. He’s just finished work on Jupiter Ascending, an upcoming space opera starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum so will be at ease with all the special effects we hope to see in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
A petition has been set up to land Matt Smith the role of Newt Scamander

31 year old Doctor Who actor Matt Smith seems to be the fan’s first choice to play Newt Scamander. He’s even had a change.org petition set up to try and land him the role! The page description explains “It needs to be someone that has never played a part for any of the previous Harry Potter movies. Which is like ten British people” as well as “After his time on Doctor Who is over Matt will be unemployed. That ladies and gentlemen is not acceptable.” A compelling argument.
