The product was priced about what I expected, close to $4.00, the shipping was more than the product at under $5.00. But I’ll spend that much on a lunch out sometimes. My son had been waiting since November for me to get this for him (I promised). When I got it and saw it was NOT folded to fit in a smaller envelope (I was concerned about that) and it looked exactly like one of the two ways I’ve seen single-song sheet music: Cardstock exterior with loose pages inside, and shipped flat; I was pleased. I’ve seen accordian folded cardstock sheet music for piano and I would have prefered that, but this was good.

A fun piece of music but it is very complex. This is definitely not for a beginning player and even an intermediate player will have trouble working this out. But after hours of work it is a pretty cool song to have in your repertoire and makes you look good at parties.

A piano teacher “Piano teacher” (Reading, PA United States) –

Linus and Lucy exists first of all in Vince Guaraldi’s improvised performances. To their credit, Hal Leonard has put together a performing version that includes both the famous two-part main theme (with a slightly simplified right hand in the “stomp” section), and both versions of the bridge – the first in straight time, and the second in shuffle beat. This stand-alone sheet gives us that complete version! The version published in the Hal Leonard collections are NOT as complete as this version – that one gives you only one bridge, the shuffle one.
These bridges are the most problematic part of any written version, for two reasons. First, they are flamboyantly improvised in Guaraldi’s original performances. Our editor has elected to give us a close transcription of the improvised bridges in Guaraldi’s first recording, which are nearly impossible to play in this form unless that recording is studied very carefully. The second issue with the bridges concerns bass accompaniments, which Guaraldi never plays – he leaves it to the bass viole and drums. Our editors have filled this void with a simplified and somewhat awkward bass part. The skilled soloist will want to adapt what is here for his or her own purposes, but at least this gives us a reasonably authentic starting point. Those choosing other “advanced” editions of Linus and Lucy are in for a rude awakening, with large portions of the composition missing. This is the one to buy.
